Rs. 212 million nursing quarters to be built at Point Pedro hospital

A nursing quarters complex costing Rs. 212 million will be constructed at the Point Pedro Base Hospital to address the long-standing shortage of accommodation for nursing staff.

The foundation stone for the project will be laid Saturday (19) afternoon under the patronage of Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.

The project will be funded by the Northern Provincial Council under the government programme to develop physical resources in the health sector.

The initiative is aimed at improving accommodation facilities for nursing staff, who have faced difficulties due to the shortage of residential facilities at the hospital.

The government said the project forms part of its programme to improve the efficiency of hospitals and other health care institutions and provide quality and efficient health services to the public.

The Governor of the Northern Province, local political representatives, the Provincial Chief Secretary, other officials and hospital staff are expected to attend the foundation-laying ceremony. (Newswire)
