Rs. 5.2 million worth house donated to mark 75th Army day

A couple blessed with twins living in Neethai Madawalalanda in the Damana Divisional Secretariat area was given a house built by the Sri Lanka Army 241 infantry Brigade Troops at a ceremony held in the Neethai Village by Commander Security Forces (East) Major General S. A. Kulatunge to mark the 75th Army day.

The project, costing Rs. 5.2 million, is the brainchild of Army Commander Lt. Gen. Liyanage and the construction was done under the close supervision of Commander 241 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Pathirathna and the leadership of Commanding Officer 11th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard Watch Major Hettiarachchi on the instruction of General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division Major Gen. Perera. The carpentry works and masonry works were done by the Army troops themselves and the financial supports were voluntary donated by the trading community of Akkaraipattu, Civil Societies and the philanthropists of the area to purchase the furniture, essential household appliances, utensils needed.

Chief Guest Major Gen. S. A. Kulatunge, and the Commander of the Infantry Brigades of 241, 242 and 243 Brigadier Pathirathna, Brigadier Kalana Amunupure, Brigadier Chandima Kumarasinghe, Colonel Prabath Halpage were present at the opening ceremony. The troops of Sri Lanka Army 241 infantry Brigade have already built houses for a Hindu villager in Alayadivembu DS Division and a house for a Muslim in the Addalaichenai area.
