Rs. 5.89 billion housing complex for public officers in Ratnapura

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to construct a housing complex with 200 residential units for public officers in Rathnapura New Town at an estimated cost of Rs. 5,886.97 million.

The five-year project was proposed by the Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing to replace the existing government quarters in Rathnapura Old Town.

The new complex will be built on land owned by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) in Rathnapura New Town.

Under the plan, the land occupied by the existing quarters will be transferred to the UDA for redevelopment as part of future urban development projects.

The initiative aims to improve accommodation facilities for public officers serving in the Sabaragamuwa region while making land in Rathnapura’s commercial centre available for further development. (Newswire)
