Run for Her 2026 Successfully Raises Awareness on Endometriosis at Independence Square

Run for Her 2026, a 5KM Endometriosis Awareness Run and 2KM Walk organized by the Endometriosis Support and Awareness Foundation Sri Lanka (ESAF), was successfully held on 24th May 2026 at Independence Square, Colombo, bringing together hundreds of participants in support of raising awareness on endometriosis and women’s health.

Founded by Rashani Meegama, a lawyer by profession, ESAF Sri Lanka is a registered

non-profit dedicated to creating awareness, education, and support surrounding endometriosis and women’s reproductive health. The foundation regularly conducts awareness programmes free of charge with the aim of educating the public, empowering women, and encouraging early diagnosis and treatment for those affected by the condition.

The event attracted over 400 runners and more than 200 walkers, reflecting the growing public support for conversations surrounding women’s health and menstrual wellbeing.

The 5KM awareness run was ceremonially flagged off at 7.00 A.M. by Chief Guest Dr. Asha de Vos, an internationally acclaimed Marine Biologist and founder of Oceanswell – Sri Lanka’s first marine conservation research and education organization, while the 2KM awareness walk commenced at 7.10 A.M., flagged off by Professor Hemantha Senanayake, the Chair Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Endometriosis is a chronic and often debilitating medical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to severe pelvic pain, painful menstruation, fatigue, and in some cases infertility. Despite affecting millions of women worldwide, the condition remains widely misunderstood and underdiagnosed, with many women suffering in silence for years before receiving proper medical attention.

Through Run for Her 2026, ESAF aimed to create a platform that encourages open dialogue surrounding endometriosis, reduces stigma associated with menstrual and reproductive health issues, and highlights the importance of early diagnosis, medical support, and emotional wellbeing for women living with the condition.

Participants from diverse age groups and backgrounds gathered at Independence Square in solidarity with the cause, making the event not only a fitness initiative, but also a powerful movement dedicated to advocacy, awareness, and community support.

The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners who contributed towards the initiative. Sponsors for the event included Nestomalt,

Muve, and Dijital Team. Ninewells Hospital joined as the Medical Partner, Ticket Ministry served as the Ticketing Partner, while Anthem supported the initiative as the Digital Media Partner.

The Endometriosis Support and Awareness Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors, partners, healthcare professionals, volunteers, media representatives, and participants who contributed towards making the event a success and helping spread awareness on endometriosis across Sri Lanka.

“Run for Her 2026 was not just about running or walking – it was about giving a voice to women who silently battle endometriosis every day. The overwhelming participation and support received shows that society is becoming more willing to engage in important conversations surrounding women’s health.

Following the success of this year’s initiative, ESAF hopes to continue expanding its free awareness programmes, advocacy campaigns, and educational initiatives surrounding endometriosis and women’s health throughout Sri Lanka.
