Russian envoy welcomes SL’s balanced foreign policy

Russian ambassador in Colombo Levan S. Dzhagaryan yesterday appreciated the balanced position of Sri Lanka in the international relations.

He said that Russia is glad to see that this year Sri Lanka is hosting the high-ranking meetings in relation with the chairmanship of that country in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and hope that this event will be fruitful for the whole region.

The release states: After joining IORA with the status of dialogue partner, Russia has been successfully integrating to the practical work of this platform in various spheres of the Indian Ocean Rim agenda, such as maritime, commercial and investment, ecological cooperation, as well as fishing and tourism. In July 2023, relevant Russian authority – Ministry for the Economic Development has organised a special online seminar on the ‘Blue Economy’ to explore the best practices and technologies for effective management of the ocean resources.

Basing on the experience of the multilateral regional mechanisms like SCO, EAEU, ASEAN+, Asia cooperation dialogue, CICA etc. Russia promotes formation of the transcontinental international relations through connection of the unions and organisations aiming at positive cooperation in the name of mutual development.

We appreciate the balanced position of Sri Lanka in the international relations. We are glad to see that this year Sri Lanka is hosting the high-ranking meetings in relation with the chairmanship of that country in the IORA and hope that this event will be fruitful for the whole region.
