Five students and two teachers of the Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya went to Moscow, Russia, recently on a scholarship awarded by the Interim Institute of International Schools in Russia.
A representative from the students’ parents also joined the tour.
Through this scholarship offered for a period of three months, the students have the opportunity to join a series of study programmes that included Russian language, culture and international studies.
The scholarship has been granted according to a special request made by the founder of Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya, Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana during his recent visit to Russia.
Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya has been given this unique opportunity with the coordination of the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Levan Dzhagaryan and the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Prof. Janitha Liyanage.
This is the first time that Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya has received such a foreign scholarship.
Focusing on the importance of giving the children of this country an understanding of international education, Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana took the initiative to get this scholarship programme for the students of Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya.
This scholarship is a unique opportunity for students to go beyond the usual education pattern and gain experience about the education pattern of a developed country, as well as exchange experiences about their language, culture and lifestyle.
