Sajith welcomes US–Iran agreement to end hostilities

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has hailed the reported agreement between the United States and Iran, stating that it is a reminder that dialogue remains humanity’s greatest strength.

“Sri Lanka knows the cost of division and the value of reconciliation. Peace is not simply the absence of war, it is the presence of hope, dignity, opportunity, and the confidence that our children will inherit a better future,” he said in a post on ‘X’.

Stating that the people of the world deserve nothing less, He added, “May peace prevail.”

His remarks came as US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had reached an agreement with Tehran, including the removal of the US blockade on Iranian ports.

The breakthrough follows months of escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, with the United States playing a central role in pushing Tehran towards negotiations. (Newswire)
