Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned a series of Houthi attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom’s southern regions, which authorities say injured 73 civilians, including women and children.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks targeted sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. Saudi authorities said some energy facilities were also hit, triggering fires and temporarily disrupting operations at several sites.
The Foreign Ministry also condemned continued Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, warning that such actions threaten freedom of international maritime navigation.
Saudi Arabia said it “will not tolerate” attacks against its territory or national assets and affirmed its right to take necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and protect citizens and residents in accordance with international law.
The Kingdom accused the Houthis of pursuing a hostile approach that threatens the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region, while rejecting efforts aimed at achieving peace.
Saudi Arabia also warned against further attacks on civilians and civilian facilities and called for an immediate halt to the escalation.
The Foreign Ministry urged the international community to assume its responsibilities and implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including resolutions 2216 and 2722.
The Houthis said the attacks were carried out in response to recent Saudi strikes in Yemen. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation involved ballistic missiles and drones and targeted Saudi facilities. (Newswire)
