SC dismisses DIG Ajith Rohana’s FR petition

The Supreme Court yesterday (4) decided to dismiss the Fundamental Rights petition filed by Ajith Rohana, who served as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Southern Province, requesting that the decision to transfer him to the Eastern Province be annulled.

Accepting the initial objections raised on behalf of the respondents including the Attorney General against the said petition, this petition was dismissed.

When the petition was called, Faiz Mustapha, PC, who appeared for the petitioner, stated that the decision taken to transfer the petitioner to the Southern Province was unfair.

He asked the Court to issue an order invalidating the letter issued by the IGP to transfer the petitioner to the Eastern Province.

Deputy Solicitor General Ganga Wakishta Arachchi, who appeared for the respondents, said that the transfer of the petitioner Ajith Rohana was done in legally.

The Deputy Solicitor General who said that six other senior DIGs were transferred with him, stated that none of them challenged the transfer.

The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court considered the facts and decided to dismiss the petition without hearing it.
