The second S8 train set to undergo a complete refurbishment at the Ratmalana Railway Workshop is ready to enter service, Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena said.
He said the S8-831 train set, which was fully refurbished under a programme to repair entire train sets rather than refurbishing engines and carriages separately, successfully completed a test run on August 14.
The second train set, S8-830, also underwent a test run today (6), he said.
According to the Deputy Minister, another train was previously refurbished at the Aluthgama Railway Yard, bringing the total number of trains refurbished and added to service this year to three.
He said the latest train set is expected to be deployed for passenger services on Colombo suburban railway lines in the near future.(Newswire)
