The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Just and Law-Abiding Society considers Amendments to the Partition Law, No. 21 of 1977 as the Act have been identified as outdated and incompatible with the contemporary context.
This was taken into consideration and approved at the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Just and Law-Abiding Society held recently (21) which was Chaired by Hon. W. D. J. Seneviratne.
Accordingly, the proposed amendments to the Act intends to address the relevant shortcomings in the existing law with several alterations and modifications are brought into the Bill. As a result, making provisions for public announcement by way of banner an using loudspeakers to enable the persons having interest in the land to be petitioned, Surveyor requirement to state in the Affidavit the nature of the claim made by the parties to the action who were present at the survey etc.. have been made.
Following consideration, the Sectoral Oversight Committee approved the said amendments brought in by the Partition Law (Amendment) Bill
Members of Parliament Hon. Madhura Withanage and Hon. K. P. S. Kumarasiri were present at the Committee meeting held.
