Sergeant who went hunting with T-56 remanded

A Police Sergeant who went hunting with two friends with the T-56 weapon issued for duty was arrested by Vahalkada Police Officers on Wednesday (16) night.

This Sergeant is attached to the Morawewa Police and is working at the Rotawewa Police Outpost. Wahalkada Police Officers arrested this Police Sergeant and his two friends  who were hunting in the forest opposite the Yan Oya Reservoir, according to information that three persons were hunting with a T-56 weapon.

At the time of arrest, the T56 weapon was found in the hands of a friend of this Sergeant, a resident of Kahtagasdigiliya.

The other arrested person is a resident of Wahalkada. Police say that the Police sergeant is a resident of Horowpothana. One of the arrested suspects is a timekeeper.

It has been found in the investigation that the sergeant secretly took the firearm issued to him for duty without informing the OIC or other officers of the Police post.

Police suspect that they have gone hunting before this too. Police said that these three suspects along with the firearm were produced in Kebathigollewa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (17) and remanded until August 31.
