The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the North-central, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and the Ampara, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Mannar districts today (16).
Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, red alerts have been issued to 21 districts and amber alerts to 04 districts.
The Met Department warns that thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning is likely to occur at several places in the said provinces and districts, and there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
