Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa has been brought before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court following her arrest by the Bribery Commission this morning (07) in connection with an investigation involving the Siriliya Saviya organisation.
The allegations relate to Rs. 10 million obtained from the National Savings Bank (NSB) through Siriliya Saviya, reportedly for the provision of a CT scanner to the Ridgeway Arya Children’s Hospital.
Investigators allege that although the funds were obtained for the stated purpose, the CT scanner was not provided to the hospital.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is accused of corruption involving the alleged criminal misappropriation of government funds and offences under the Public Property Act.
She was arrested by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) earlier today before being brought to court. (Newswire)
