Shopkeepers near schools called to be alert over drug trafficking

The Police Headquarters states that about 35,000 shopkeepers and employees have been made aware and informed to be alert about drug trafficking in the vicinity of schools.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Environmental Protection and Community Police have informed all Divisional Police Stations to educate the owners and employees of the shops where the children go for their daily needs located within a distance of 500 metres around the schools about the threat posed by drugs. They asked to be alert and inform the Police about any suspicious activities.

Accordingly, about 35,000 owners and employees of 3,183 shops located near schools including bookstores and hotels have been made aware of the threat and about the importance of informing the Police promptly about suspicious individuals or attempts to sell drugs to children.
