The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers throughout the Uva Province and the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Hambantota, and Matara today (23).
Other parts of the country are likely to experience showers or thunderstorms during the evening or night, with some areas in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces receiving moderate to heavy rainfall of up to 50 mm.
Moderately strong winds of 30-40 km/h are expected in the eastern slopes of the Central Highlands, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces, and the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Morning foggy conditions are expected in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in the Galle district.
The public is advised to take precautions to minimize risks from strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
