Sivathanujan and Dhihansa triumph in National Amateur Chess C’ships

S Sivathanujan and Dhihansa Gamage emerged as champions in the 9th National Amateur International Rated Chess Championships organized by the Sri Lanka Chess Federation (CFSL) at the MJF Centre in Katubedda from August 4 to 7.

secured the first runner-up title with 7.5 points, while Ovin Vidmal Gamage settled for the second runner-up position.

In the National Amateur Women’s Championship, Dhihansa Gamage showcased her brilliance, securing the title with 8 points out of 9. AFM R M Dulinma Rathnayake secured the first runner-up title with 7.5 points. ACM A G Javindi Akuratiya earned the second runner-up position after a closely contested battle.

The event followed a Swiss format with 9 rounds and a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move 01. The tournament offered a total cash fund of Rs 280,000/-, along with certificates, medals, and trophies for the top performers.
