Six hundred squash players vie for Schools Squash Title

In a major sporting event, around 600 young squash players from 32 top schools in Sri Lanka are taking part for the Sri Lanka Inter-schools Squash Championship. The tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Squash Association, will take place at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana from (today) November 27 to 30.

The four-day competition will feature budding talent across five age groups: Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and Under-20, catering to both junior and senior levels. The tournament includes individual and team events, adding an extra layer of excitement.

The closing ceremony on the final day will witness the participation of the Assistant Director of the Sports Department of the Education Ministry, alongside Dhammika Wijesundara, President of the Sri Lanka Squash Association. Krishantha Silva, Assistant Principal of Royal College, will

represent as the President of the Sri Lanka Schools Squash Association, with Pujitha Udalamatta from Defence Services School serving as the Secretary. The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm on Thursday.

As the tournament unfolds, defending champions in the boys’ categories include Royal College, who clinched the coveted boys’ overall championship in the previous edition. DS Senanayake College secured the boys’ runners-up position. In the girls’ division, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya emerged as the overall champions, while Visakha Vidyalaya claimed the runners-up position.
