The Hikkaduwa Police Lifeguard Unit (PLU) has successfully rescued, unharmed, six (06) Russian nationals who were swept away by the currents while bathing at the Narigama beach in Hikkaduwa on December 23 and 25.
On Monday December 23, at around 11:40 a.m., a 37-year-old Russian national named Vasily and his two daughters, aged 12 and 5, who had been swimming 50 metres south and 100 metres towards the deep seas from the Narigama Police Station in Hikkaduwa, were rescued.On the 25, at around 11:00 a.m., a 35-year-old Russian woman named Avetakal and her 3-year-old child were both rescued while swimming 100 metres to the left and 150 metres from the deep seas from the Police station.
On the same day (25) at around 5:35 p.m., the PLU was able to also rescue a 33-year-old Russian national named Moradian who was swimming in the sea 150 metres to the left and 200 metres towards the deep seas, from the police outpost.
The Lifesaving Unit affiliated to the Hikkaduwa Police also stated that these three (03) adults and their three (03) children were rescued safely, given first aid and sent away.
The rescue of these foreigners was carried out by Sub-Inspector Deshapriya, Police Constables Padmakumara (94998), Kanishka (99492) and Dissanayake (102748) under the supervision of Police Inspector Hewage in charge of the Lifeguard Unit, affiliated with the Hikkaduwa Police.
