Since former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s party has become leaderless today, the Samagi Jana Balawega can easily win the upcoming General election and form a government compared to the least number of votes obtained by the Gas cylinder symbol in the last Presidential election, Samagi Jana Sandhanaya Kandy district group leader Tissa Attanayake said.
He also said that the balanced situation resulting from one party getting the ruling power and another party getting the Opposition status is good for the country.
Speaking to the media yesterday after handing over the nominations of Samagi Jana Sandhanaya for the Kandy district, he said necessary plans are afoot to correct the shortcomings seen in the last Presidential election and make the Kandy district victorious this time. There are cases in history where the political party representing the President did not get the majority when the Parliamentary election was held after the Presidential election. After Chandrika Bandaranaike won the 1999 Presidential election, her party did not get a majority in the General election held in 2000.
According to the results of the last Presidential election, Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been given consent by only one third of the voters. That means two thirds don’t like him. Because of this, we have a greater chance of winning the General election and forming a government.
If the President has a sincere desire to build the country, we also have the same desire. Therefore, we can work together without any conflict.
Last time we lost Kandy district by only 60,000 votes. Only 30,000 votes need to be changed for our victory in this election. We are trying to bring those who did not vote for us last time to the polling station. We expect that we will be able to win 07 seats from Kandy district through that move.
