SJB MP J. C. Alawathuwala said in Parliament yesterday that he will support the President’s programme regarding IMF extended credit facility.
He also said that he never said that such support will not be provided on any occasion.
The MP said this while speaking in the debate held after the President presented the terms of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund to Parliament.
He said that the members of Pohottuwa previously said that the IMF was approaching the devil.
The MP further said it was our party that kept saying to go to the International Monetary Fund to alleviate the situation in the country. It was former CB Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral who kept saying that US$ 6-7 billion is brought to the country and not going to the IMF. We are happy that the President took the responsibility to do this. We are happy for the people of the country.
