Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday expressed serious concern over several proposals the previous Government agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and said if he gets the majority in Parliament at the forthcoming General election he will definitely get-together with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and amend the IMF agreement to bring down the skyrocketed Cost- of- Living (COL) for the benefit of people in the country.
Addressing a public meeting in Colombo the SJB leader said people are anxiously waiting to see a reduction of certain direct and indirect taxes which was introduced by the previous Government as it would immensely help to reduce the prices of essential commodities and food items such as rice, wheat flour, dhal, milk powder and canned fish. Premadasa also said if certain direct and indirect taxes of essential items are reduced the current prices of essential food and goods will also be automatically reduced.
The SJB leader further said all the expectations that benefit people in the country could be fulfilled with the assistance of the President after reducing taxes, only if the people elect SJB with a sound majority at the forthcoming General Election.a
