Samagi Jana Sandhanaya (SJS) Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa said that the illegal entry of fishermen into Sri Lankan waters will be dealt with a diplomatic way when SJS comes to power after September 21. Since the involvement of poaching fishermen in the Sri Lankan waters has become a serious issue affecting the livelihood for local fishermen, the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya will work to provide a permanent and long lasting diplomatic solution to this issue promptly, he added.
He was addressing a public rally organized by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya (SJS) aiming at the 2024 Presidential Election in Mannar on Wednesday (3).
While speaking on the agricultural sector developments, he said that an important programme will come to effect to ease the burden of farmers. Accordingly paddy farmers will receive a guaranteed price for paddy harvest as well as a 50 kg fertiliser bag for Rs.5,000 from next January.
The further added that apart from the fertilizer subsidy, fuel subsidy will also be provided through QR code for agricultural purposes of farmers. It is significant that agriculture loans obtained by farmers will be written off.
“Crop loans will definitely be waived under our government,” he noted.
“We are working to create a massive development in the entire country by holding an international support summit for the people of the north and east who have been battered by the war. Also, by establishing transport links with India and with other districts of the country, it will be possible to create an era of massive development centred on Mannar. It will be possible to improve the tourism industry centred on Mannar. It is also possible to establish manufacturing industries. We are definitely committed to convert Mannar district, which has received less attention for decades, to a strong and developed district,” he added.
