SL elected CFC’s Governing Council Vice-Chair

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Netherlands Rekha Gunasekera was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Governing Council of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) for the years 2024 and 2025, at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Governing Council held recently.

At the annual meeting, Ambassador Gunasekera delivered the national statement of Sri Lanka and recognised the efforts undertaken by the Common Fund for Commodities to improve the livelihoods of developing countries that rely on commodities. She emphasised the role of CFC in fostering resilience and mitigating global challenges such as poverty, climate change and natural disasters. The Ambassador also stated that Sri Lanka looks forward to further enhanced cooperation with the CFC to boost, particularly, the SME sector development.

Ambassador Gunasekera also delivered the regional statement in her capacity as the Vice Chairperson representing the Asia Pacific Regional Group of the Common Fund for Commodities.

The Common Fund for Commodities consists of 101 member states, including Sri Lanka, and is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is an autonomous intergovernmental financial institution established within the framework of the United Nations.
