Pursuant to requests from the Sri Lankan community for the Embassy to provide consular services on a weekend, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome launched its first trial weekend service on September 8, to provide Consular Services.
The provision of a weekend service is aimed at assisting members of the community who are compelled to travel to the Embassy in Rome from different provinces in Italy to obtain services, and those who are unable to come to the Embassy during the week due to work obligations.
The Embassy provided Consular services to community members from Rome, as well as different parts of Italy, ranging from Northern cities of Bologna and Modena in Emilia-Romagna, to Florence in Tuscany in the South. The first Consular service was an endorsement provided to a Sri Lankan lady from Modena, who was symbolically handed over the document by Ambassador-designate Satya Rodrigo.
To provide some comfort and refreshment for those who had come to obtain services in the 30C summer heat, the Embassy arranged an Italian Granita cart to serve semi-frozen ice dessert in various flavours.
The Ambassador-designate had interaction with the Sri Lankans to enquire from them the nature of Consular issues they face and how the Embassy could serve them better.
The Embassy, under its new “Help us to serve you better” initiative, will continue to be open for Consular services once a month on a Sunday. Accordingly, the next Sunday Consular service will be on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 09:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Embassy said.
