The Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP) held its Green Productivity Awards 2022 at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla on June 19.
The event, which began at 6 pm, recognised and celebrated organisations that have enhanced productivity while prioritising environmental conservation and social welfare for their employees and the community at large.
The Green Productivity Awards 2022 came at a crucial time when many countries, including Sri Lanka, are grappling with the challenges of environmental degradation and economic crises. The event highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable practices to achieve economic growth without compromising the well-being of the environment and society.
Eighteen organisations from both the private and public sectors, representing manufacturing and service industries, were honoured with awards categorised into gold, silver, bronze and merit certificates.
The chief guest for the evening was Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, while the keynote speaker was Randeewa Malalasooriya, Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Natural Foods Cluster of Ceylon Biscuits Limited.
The event was attended by dignitaries from both the environmental and industrial sectors.
The award-winning organisations included Thalawakelle Tea Estate PLC, Hayleys Fabric, Samson Compounds, Noritake Lanka, several plants under MAS Kreeda, Hemas Hospitals, MAS Fabrics Pvt Ltd., Future Fibres, Elpitiya Plantation, Orit Apparel, and Palmerstone Tea Estate. The event was generously sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) and Dilmah Tea.
The Green Productivity Awards 2022 served as a platform to showcase the commitment of these organizations towards sustainable development and their dedication to balancing economic growth with environmental and social responsibility. The SLAAQP remains committed to promoting and supporting such initiatives to build a more sustainable future for Sri Lanka and the world.
