Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe, said that everyone who loves cricket is deeply saddened and worried in view of the continuous defeats of the Sri Lankan cricket team, and the Sri Lanka Cricket and national selection committee should accept responsibility for this without blaming the players.
Our country receives money from the ICC based on the Sri Lanka cricket team’s participation in international tournaments, media broadcasting rights, hosting of international tournaments, development of the infrastructure of cricket and cricketers, and the money received by our country depends on the skills of the cricketers. The Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee continues to abuse the cricketers by not providing them with the basic facilities they need.
The Minister has insisted that both the Sri Lanka Cricket executive committee and the Cricket selection committee should step down from their positions before he initiates stringent actions against them.
In particular, the Minister pointed out that although almost every other country uses the most modern technical and scientific systems and tools for the game of cricket, it is not happening in our country that the players continue to suffer injuries.
The minister said that the massive financial irregularities that occurred earlier in 2018 were reconfirmed, and there is no change in that situation.
And on personal vendettas and neglect, not including senior and experienced players like Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal in the national team is another reason for these defeats, the minister points out.
The minister pointed out that the decisions made by the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee based on their personal ambitions led to the loss of the World Cup, the leading spinner of Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, who was injured during the LPL series, missed the World Cup, The injury of talented players like fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara reveals that the lack of suitable conditions to compete as a team in a World Cup tournament directly affected the defeats of such tournaments.
