SLCO commends Cancer Society’s assistance for patients

The Sri Lanka College of Oncologists (SLCO), President Dr. Prasad Abeysinghe highlighted the pivotal role played by the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) in its tireless effect being taken to fight against cancer in Sri Lanka and extended his gratitude to the Society for supporting both cancer patients and also their families in various ways. Dr. Abeysinghe made these remarks at the SLCS AGM held in Colombo. Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, CEO Buwanekabahu Perera, SLCS, President E.P. Mannakkara and Chairperson Anoja Karunaratne were also present.

Dr. Abeysinghe highly valued the service rendered by SLCS during the last 75 years and said the Society has become the beacon in cancer awareness in Sri Lanka. He said the Society is also empowering cancer patients by conducting regular campaigns and workshops for early cancer detections.

Dr. Abeysinghe highlighted that the SLCS also provide the much needed logistical and financial aid and the psychological support for both cancer patients and their families.

“The SLCS is also driving transformative changes in cancer care through initiatives and the implementation of counselling and survivorship programmes,” he said.

Dr. Abeysinghe further said the SLCS is actively involved in community, the support groups and also volunteers through its branch network with the whole objective of battling against cancer.

He also reminded that the Sri Lanka College of Oncologists with its 183 members which include all specialists related to cancer care are delighted to work closely with the SLCS in its endeavour of battling against cancer.

He said, the Society’s recent cancer awareness campaign, conducted to coincide with its 75th anniversary had highlighted the SLCS’ longstanding commitment to eliminate cancer from this land and its continuous fight against cancer. Dr. Abeysinghe also valued the contribution being made by the SLCS by maintaining the Shantha Sevana Hospice and the Bandaranaike Memorial Cancer Home for the benefit of terminally ill cancer patients and their families.
