The 26th edition of the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb, powered by Sri Lanka Telecom -MOBITEL is set to roar off at Browns Hill, Matara at 7am on Sunday.
The Eliyakanda hill climb is the flagship event of the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) and has been held continuously in the clubs twenty five year history.
Drivers and riders are set to take up the challenges offered on this 540 meter track which is renowned for its competitiveness, with the hope of improving their timings and establishing new records. The record books for the Eliyakanda track have been rewritten repeatedly as competitors keep on mastering the track. The fastest time recorded for the Eliyakanda track is 31.26 seconds set by Ashan Silva at the 25th edition held in 2021 while Jaden Gunawardena set a new track record for motorcycles with a timing of 33.63 seconds the same year. A record 120 drivers and 94 riders have entered for the 26th edition of the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb. They will be allowed practice runs on Saturday (19th) and the main event is scheduled to start at 7am on Sunday.
In addition to the title sponsors SLT-MOBITEL Nippon Paints Pvt Limited have come in as Main sponsors while Wurth Lanka , Freelan Industries, MBSL, Mobil lubticants, 3M, Harischandra Mills, MSN and Iornman are also supporting SMSC to make the 26th Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb a success.
