Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse said that a subtle conspiracy has been going on for a long time to attack the country’s democracy and gradually make the country politically unstable. Certain people and parties are actively engaged in social media to change people’s minds to achieve that.
He said this while addressing the gathering at a programme organised by the March 12 Movement in Ambalantota recently.
Without presenting any alternative programme, some people accuse all 225 people’s representatives in Parliament and this nature of acts cannot be accepted as they do such things without knowing about the services provided to the country through Parliament, Rajapakse said.
However, he said that he is happy to be one of the 225 despite the insults inflicted on the 225 members.
There are good and down-to-earth people in Parliament who are aware of the suffering and problems of the people. Therefore abusing and attacking everyone in Parliament is wrong, Rajapakse said. Many important things happening in Parliament are not known by the people of this country. That is why they have the wrong picture about Parliament, which is the main centre of our country’s democracy. People should be briefed about the important Bills and rules and regulations passed by Parliament through appropriate social media platforms, Rajapakse said.
