Soft liquor permits suspended following CA injunctions

The Commissioner General of Excise has ordered the suspension of licences given to hotels, restaurants and institutions providing accommodation and services to tourists registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Promotion Authority for the use of soft alcohol including beer and wine with immediate effect.

The order was made by the Commissioner General of Excise in pursuance of the injunctions passed in connection with a case pending in the Appeal Court.

In a statement, the Commissioner General of Excise has said that all soft liquor permits, issuance of applications for soft liquor permits and the effective date of the excise notice related to this soft liquor permit will be suspended.

According to the orders of the Court of Appeal, the said injunctions will be effective until the date of the final decision of the said case. This Court of Appeal case is scheduled to be called again on November 13.
