Solutions for people displaced in North and East and problems to be ended via a reconciliation process – Sajith

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Presidential Candidate and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the Provincial Council (PC) election will be held soon.

He made these remarks at the 58th Election rally of the SJB for the 2024 Presidential Election held in Manipayi, Jaffna on Sunday (15).

He emphasised that SJB does not have people obtaining petty political gains such as wine store licences, bar licences and special grants and privileges. Opposition Leader Premadasa said that everyone around him is a group with the same goal of building the country regardless of race, religion, class and party.

The Opposition Leader also said that he is committed to strengthening people’s lives after the damage caused by the war, based on policies and focusing on the Northern and Eastern provinces.

He emphasised that new factories will be established as a solution to the employment of youth. The youth community under pressure due to unemployment is committed to freeing them from that pressure.

The Opposition Leader added that he as the Minister of Housing has been building houses countrywide, but after Gotabaya Rajapaksa came to power, he stopped the construction of those housing projects. He said that it has been planned to restart those housing projects after he comes to power.

“We give subsidies only to the working people. We also give fuel subsidies to three-wheeler drivers, farmers through a QR code system,” he pointed out.

The Opposition Leader said here that every government school will be made into a friendly and smart school while all Government Hospitals will be made into Smart Hospitals aiming to further strengthen the free education and free health facilities.

Premadasa said that international level youth development centres will be established which can provide modern technology and higher education to the youth. The Leader of the Opposition further said that computer science, language ability, information technology knowledge will be imparted through youth development centres and the youth will be empowered as entrepreneurs through empowerment.

On this occasion, Member of Parliament of Ilangei Tamil Arasu Kachchi MP M.M. Sumanthiran, Chairman of Northern PC, C.V.K. Sivagnanam, and several others joined the public meeting.
