Three Somalian fishermen who had been stranded in the deep sees due to the breakdown of their vessel were rescued by a group of Sri Lankan fishermen and brought them to Galle Fishery harbour yesterday in their fishing trawler, Galle Harbour Police said.
The rescued fisherman aged 40, 30 and 24 were to be taken to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for a medical examination.
The small fishing boat in which the Somali fishermen were on board had broken down and was floating about 675 nautical miles from Trincomalee when the fishermen in the trawler “Nalaka Sampath 01” from Hikkaduwa had rescued them.
A group of officers led by Galle Harbour Police IP Meshan Silva are conducting further investigations.
