Attorney Manoj Gamage yesterday said that a special operation is the need of the hour to get rid of the pharmaceutical mafia in the country.
He was of the view that an operation should be launched to wipe out pharmaceutical mafia in parallel to the Yukthiye Meheyuma which is in progress to eradicate the drug menace
“The racketeer who is manufacturing substandard pharmaceuticals has mentioned in his website that his company is producing more than 500 varieties of drugs. Even India does not have a company producing 500 varieties of drugs”, Gamage said
He queried as to why Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa and Dr.Rukshan Bellana are silent on this racketeer. Gamage said that Dr.Chamal Sanjeewa and Dr.Rukshan Bellana are making impact on the judicial procedure Speaking at a press conference at Public Library yesterday Gamage said some elements have been enraged after the CID recorded a statement from the former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. Attorney Gamage while stressing that he is holding the press conference as a civil society activist said former Minister’s advisor Dr.Sanjeewa Perera had made the complaint regarding the drug mafia on the directive of the former Minister on Octomber 23. “Thereafter, the Anti Corruption Front and MP Kavinda Jayawardena made complaints to National Medical Regulatory Authority”, he said.
Gamage added that former Minister Rambukwella nor NMRA officials have been made accused or suspected in the case. “Those who are slinging mud at them are appearing for these bogus pharmaceutical companies”, he said.Gamage added that Dr.Rukshan Bellana and Dr.Chamal Sanjeewa are spreading lies.
