Like stars are to the sky, so are the children to our world. They deserve to shine. This is a well-known saying by Chinonye J. Chidlue. The extravagant concert titled Thinetha was organised by Asian Grammar School for talented children to shine.
Hundreds of lotus buds opened up with overflowing fragrance at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre recently. Certainly, the mind-blowing performances by AGS students, including music, traditional Sri Lankan dancing, and freestyle dancing, held the whole audience spellbound. Music, both instrumental and vocal, sweetened the musical taste, and the dance items added a vibrant colour, booming out of drums, and heart-soothing tunes from the violins captivated the whole audience.
To be honest, blended with physical expressions, vibrant colours, and elegance, Thinetha has touched many hearts. Behind the success of the event, there is a story to be revealed. Organising Thinetha in a brilliant fashion, the principal of the school, Dr Thushari Koralage, the chairman, Sumith Tennakoon, the manager of the school, Sunimal Tennakoon, the acting principal, Savini Tennakoon, the deputy principals, Manju Govindan, Kesha Kalpage, Buddhika Yapa Bandara, and all the other teachers breathed new life into children’s dreams.
Undoubtedly, aesthetic teachers of AGS, including music teachers Nath Athauda, Thilina Fernando, Shreni Gamage, and dance teachers Indrajith Prasanna, Nadeesha Wijesinghe, Vihani Tennakoon, art teacher WKH Imasha, and drama teacher Isuri Madhubhani painted those breathing dreams with their fullest efforts. Interestingly, conducting the orchestra, Nath Athauda thrilled the audience. Finally, all the teachers rounded off the musical night with a medley of popular songs.
Asian Grammar School Principal said: “Thinetha is a platform for teachers and students who are talented and interested in singing, dancing, and acting. We wanted to plant a ‘Can-Do Attitude’ in students’ minds through aesthetic subjects. That is why we organised Thinetha.”
Veteran film director Dr Somaratne Dissanayake attended the event as the Chief Guest. Major General Prasanna de Silva was the Guest of Honour. In addition, Air Vice Marshal OANG Fernando, Group Captain SAPT Piyaratne, Director of Aesthetic Studies Nishan Handunpathirana, principal dancer Thajithangani Dias, Director of Kolonnawa Educational Division and Director of Primary Education Rishanthi Ratnayake, Television and radio presenter Fizal Bongso, and Senior manager at Charana TV, Wajira Jayawardana, were also present at the event.
