Sports Ministry asks reasons for Chamika's omission

The sports Ministry has inquired from SLC THE reason FOR Chamika Katunaratne’s omission from the National ODI squad for the on going Afghanistan series.

The Daily News learnt that SLC already got a letter from the Sports Minister to explain the omission of all rounder Chamika Katunaratne.

The selection committee already gave their criteria about selection and they also pointed out the reasons why Chamika was not included for the Afghanistan series. Chamika Katunaratne is a good all rounder who was not focused on the game during the Australia series.

Chamika already got one year suspended ban and fine but he finally got NOC letter to take part in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T-10 cricket tournament.

Meanwhile Bhanuka Rajapaksha also last minute withdrew his name from the National ODI squad. He mentioned due to personal reasons he is not willing to play with the National ODI series against Afghanistan.

However the selection committee headed by Promodya Wickramasinghe has many challenges after the T 20 world cup The Sport Minister also inquired about Cricket Selection committee activities.

The Minister and the National sports council Chairman Arjuna Ranathunga both have said this National cricket selection committee never consulted the National Selection committee headed by General Shavendra Silva.

Meanwhile Daily News learnt that Chairman of the selection committee Promodya Wickramasinghe already given his views about Chamika Katunaratne and he is willing to explain about Cricket selection committee duties and their responsibility.
