Springfield College Kandy’s Under-12 Table Tennis team followed up on last month’s Under-10 ‘A’ Division title with an impressive performance at the All-Island ‘A Division’ Inter-School Table Tennis Team Championships, held at the Bandaragama Indoor Stadium on 28 and 29 August 2026.

Springfield topped their group with victories over Royal College Colombo and Dharmaraja College Kandy, securing their place in the knockout stages. In the quarter-final, they defeated Hindu College Colombo before overcoming P. De S. Kularathna College, Ambalangoda, in the semi-final to book their place in the final.

In the final, Springfield College Kandy went down to defending champions Dharmashoka College Ambalangoda to finish as runners-up. The U12 team comprised Yoonus Zaman, Hassan Zaman, Hussein Zaman and Mohammad Usman.

The Under-18 team also enjoyed a strong run, reaching the final of the U18 ‘E’ Division. They topped their group with wins over Poramadulla Central College and Galahitiyawa Central College, before defeating Anuradhapura Central College in the quarter-final and Ananda College, Mathugama, in the semi-final.

In the final, Springfield faced Carey College, Colombo, and secured the runners-up position. The U18 team comprised Shannon Kennedy, Nathesha Wijesinghe, Bilal Zaman and Ayesh Ellepola.

Both teams were guided by their coaches, Mrs. Kanchana Wedagedara and Mr. Rajesh Kumar, whose dedicated training and preparation played an important role in the teams’ performances.

The runners-up finishes in both divisions mark an excellent showing for Springfield College Kandy at this year’s island-wide championships and further strengthen the school’s growing record in inter-school table tennis.
