Sri Lanka and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have held discussions to identify priority development projects for the 2026–2029 period, with a focus on projects to be included in the ADB’s long-term plans for the country.
The discussion was held recently at the Presidential Secretariat, co-chaired by Secretary to the President Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and ADB Country Director for Sri Lanka Shannon Cowlin.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the meeting was held in preparation for the ADB programme review scheduled for October 05 and 06, which will focus on the successful implementation of the Bank’s annual programme for 2027.
According to the PMD, special attention was given to identifying development projects that should be prioritised for inclusion in the ADB’s long-term project plans.
The discussions also focused on ensuring government ownership of ADB-funded programmes and maintaining clear and efficient coordination between government processes and ADB procedures.
The effective use of limited concessional financial resources and technical assistance was also discussed, along with measures to accelerate Sri Lanka’s development while addressing challenges in achieving the country’s fiscal targets. (Newswire)
