Sri Lanka dengue cases surpass 58,000, deaths rise to 39

According to the Ministry of Health, dengue cases in Sri Lanka have surpassed 58,000 in 2026, with 3,422 infections reported in the first three days of July.

The ministry said total cases stood at 58,810 as of midnight on July 3, while dengue-related deaths had risen to 39 so far this year.

Colombo District recorded the highest number of cases with 12,017, followed by Gampaha with 11,740. Together, the two districts account for more than 40% of all infections nationwide.

Cases surged in June following the onset of the south-west monsoon, with 21,549 cases reported, compared to 8,590 in May. (Newswire)
