Sri Lanka Golf unleashes power pair for Bangladesh Challenge

Chalitha Pushpika from the Sri Lanka Navy and Uchitha Ranasinghe of Royal Colombo Golf Club will represent Sri Lanka in the upcoming Orion Group 37th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship. The prestigious tournament is scheduled to take place from January 31 to February 3 at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, as officially announced by Sri Lanka Golf yesterday.

Chalitha Pushpika secured his spot by topping the two-day selection trial held by Sri Lanka Golf on January 8 and 9. With impressive gross scores of 73 and 69, coupled with a strong overseas performance, Pushpika’s outstanding trial performance earned him the top honors.

“Chalitha’s exceptional trial performance, along with his recent success in Malaysia where he secured two 11th place finishes, earned him a well-deserved place in the team heading to Bangladesh,” announced Sri Lanka Golf.

Uchitha Ranasinghe, who finished second in the selection trial with scores of 74 and 70, also earned his place for the upcoming championship. His notable performance in the Saujana Amateur Golf Championship last month, where he secured a 35th position, played a key role in his selection.

“Uchitha Ranasinghe’s second-place finish in the trial, combined with his achievements in the Saujana Amateur Championship and the November NRT, secured him the second spot in the team,” stated Sri Lanka Golf. The Orion Group Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship, organized by Bangladesh Golf Federation, is the premier amateur world-ranked international golf tournament in the country. The first edition was hosted by Kurmitola Golf Club in 1982, and this year marks the sixth time that the Orion Group of Companies sponsors the tournament.

The competition will see top amateur golfers from various countries, including India, Bhutan, Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nepal, South Korea, Indonesia, and the host country Bangladesh, showcasing their skills in what promises to be an exciting and competitive event.
