Sri Lanka hoping to win more than 20 medals at Asian Para games

Dinesh Priyantha Herath and Samitha Dulan the last Paralympic gold and silver medalists from Javelin throw and Palitha Bandara the Commonwealth Games Discus throw bronze medalists are once again heading for medals at Asian Para Games which will commence on Hangzhou in China .Sri Lanka already expects more than 20 medals at this meet said National Paralympic Committee ( NPC) President Lt Colonel Deepal Herath.

He also pointed out Sports Ministry and Dialog gave big support to our team for this China tour . The value of Asian Games medals and Asian Para Games medals are same while same facilities and same venues for para athletes and we also had good preparation to get success said NPC President Lt Colonel Deepal Herath .

All para athletes are focused on this Asian Para Games while last time Sri Lanka took 14 medals and this time we are hoping to increase number of medals with good preparation .

We know most of the time para athletes have get third level treatment.We have more difficulty to find sponsors and today para athletes are very competitive than those days .They also have facilities like able athletes and NPC always give their best to promote Para athletes said NPC

President Lt Colonel Deepal Discuss throw event is not included for this meet and Sri Lankan Palitha Bandara is expected to compete at Shot Put event .

We have to appreciate Sport Ministry and National Sports Council headed by Arjuna Ranatunga while Retired Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti also active member of National sports council gave good support to para athletes.

Lt Colonel Deepal Herath who is also the Chief de Mission of the tour party already reached Asian Para Games Village in Hangzhou and the first batch of the para Athletes accompanied NPC President while rest of the team members are scheduled to reach Hangzhou today The Asian Para Games will be held from October 22 to 28.Sri Lankan para athletes are expected to make pre preparation while apart from athletics ,Table Tennis ,Wheel chair Tennis ,Badminton ,Swimming are the key events to compete for Sri Lanka athletes .More than 4000 para athletes are expected to take part in the games while Hangzhou Sport Park Stadium is the main venue for this Games same as Asian Games which recently concluded in this same venue.
