Sri Lanka, Indonesia PTA negotiations on June 19, 20

The second meeting of the negotiation committee for the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) is scheduled to be held on June 19 and 20, 2024 in Colombo, Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said. He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department. Sri Lanka and Indonesia officially launched the negotiations for the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA)

on March 14 by Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya and Indonesia’s Trade Vice Minister Jerry Sambuaga in a virtual meeting.

During the meeting the Negotiation Committee has exchanged views on the areas of discussion methodology, relevant data sharing timeline, scope and coverage and both parties have agreed that both countries are keen to strengthen bilateral trade relations and achieve meaningful market access under the proposed PTA. During this week’s meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Ranil Wickremasinghe has briefed the Cabinet of Ministers on the progress of the discussions between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Indonesia’s Trade Deputy Minister with respect to the proposed Preferential Trade Agreement between the two countries.
