Sri Lanka Police have reminded the public that courts have the power to take legal action against individuals who evade arrest or remain in hiding after a warrant has been issued.
Under Section 60 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act No. 15 of 1979, a court may issue a written proclamation requiring a person evading a warrant to appear at a specified place and time, giving at least 30 days to do so.
Police said that if the person fails to appear even after such a proclamation, the court may, under Section 61, issue an order for the attachment of movable or immovable property belonging to that person. (Newswire)
