The Sri Lanka Railways Department has launched a new joint initiative this year with the Government Factory to conduct heavy schedule maintenance on S11 locomotives alongside existing operations at the Ratmalana Railway Workshop.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena inspected the ongoing maintenance work under this collaborative project at the Maligawatta Railway Yard today.
As part of the overhaul, the locomotive’s old fiberglass front face is being replaced with a newly fabricated, durable stainless steel structure. Maintenance work is expected to be completed swiftly, with the upgraded S11 engine scheduled to return to active service by January. The initiative aims to strengthen rail transport services through inter-agency state cooperation. (Newswire)
