Sri Lanka reserves at USD 6.9 billion; remittances reach USD 748.6 million in August

Sri Lanka’s gross official reserves were provisionally estimated at USD 6.905 billion at the end of August 2026, according to the Central Bank.

The reserve figure includes proceeds from the People’s Bank of China swap arrangement.

Workers’ remittances amounted to USD 748.6 million in August, down from USD 777.6 million in July but higher than the USD 680.8 million recorded in August 2025.

The Central Bank also said the Sri Lankan rupee had depreciated by 5.7% against the US dollar on a year-to-date basis as of Sept. 11.  (Newswire)
