Sri Lanka wins ‘Best Food’ Award for third consecutive year at Commonwealth Food Fair in Italy

Sri Lanka has secured first place for the ‘Best Food’ Award for the third consecutive year at the Commonwealth Food Fair held in Rome, Italy, alongside the Commonwealth Club Cricket Cup 2026.

The event was held on September 26 at the Roma Cricket Ground, organised by the Commonwealth Club of Rome in collaboration with UISP Roma, under the patronage of the Italian Cricket Federation.

In addition to winning the Best Food Award, the Sri Lankan Embassy Team secured third place in the cricket tournament and received the ‘Best Team Jersey’ trophy.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome participated in the event in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), showcasing Sri Lankan cuisine, culture and tourism to representatives of diplomatic missions, international organisations and cricket enthusiasts from several countries.

The Sri Lankan food stall, catered by Suresh Food & Drinks Restaurant in Rome, offered a variety of traditional dishes, including kottu, chicken fried rice, pol roti with seeni sambol, vegetable rolls, chicken patties and watalappan, along with Ceylon Tea.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Italy, Satya Rodrigo, highlighted cricket’s importance in bringing communities together and acknowledged the sport’s growing popularity in Italy.

The Sri Lankan team’s award-winning jersey featured maroon and gold colours, incorporating the lion and lotus symbols alongside landmarks of Rome.

Five teams participated in this year’s cricket tournament, representing the Embassies of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, United Nations agencies, the Commonwealth Club of Rome and the Rome International–University of Cassino team.

Sri Lanka first participated in the event in 2024, winning the Best Food Award and securing second place in the cricket tournament. The country retained the food award in 2025 while finishing third in cricket.

The Embassy said such initiatives help promote Sri Lanka’s cuisine, tourism, culture and sporting traditions while strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and Italy. (Newswire)
