The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Club of Bahrain and the Sinhala School in Bahrain, hosted the launch of a children’s storybook “Api Hayai – Katha Godai” at the Embassy premises on October 2.
Building on this milestone, the publication is a collaborative short story collection authored by six young Sri Lankan students, Tharani Imandi Jayarathna, Sithika Themika Samaradiwakara, Tharaka Sasindu Perera, Isuru Nilna Bodaragamage, Chanudi Nethinsa Samarathunga and Sehari Ashmika De Silva. To mark the occasion, the young writers presented their maiden publication’s inaugural copy to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Bahrain, Shanika Dissanayake.
Copies were also distributed to leadership and representatives from the schools where the authors pursue their studies namely The New Indian School, The Indian School, Sacred Heart School, and Al Noor International School. Sinhala School Principal Lakmal De Silva joined the event to celebrate the students’ achievement.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Dissanayake commended the children for their creativity and enthusiasm, stressing the importance of nurturing young talents and encouraging their literary potential. She also expressed appreciation for the unwavering guidance provided by the parents and the teachers of the Bahrain Sinhala School.
The celebration featured a pre recorded book review delivered by Sri Lankan journalist and author Harindranath Chandrasiri. Bringing together families, local schoolchildren and well wishers from the diaspora, the event made for a memorable Children’s Day commemoration. (Newswire)
