Sri Lankan Rupee fastest growing currency says Bloomberg – State Minister

According to the latest report of the American Bloomberg Institute, the Sri Lankan Rupee is the fastest growing currency in the world, Media State Minister Shantha Bandara said.

He mentioned this yesterday (9) while attending a special press conference held at the Ministry.

State Minister Bandara said that the current economic crisis is the result of weaknesses in administrative and financial management that have existed for a long time.

All Parties have a responsibility to move the country forward rather than talking about subsequent lapses. “President Ranil Wickremesinghe took charge of this country in a very difficult situation. That is why we are unconditionally supporting to strengthen the country economically. The only task that we as a nation should do is to strengthen our country economically, he said.

“President Ranil Wickremesinghe has prepared a clear road map for that as the Finance Minister. Efforts are taken to rebuild this fallen economy. The results are coming in. On the one hand, efforts are being made to reduce government expenditure while increasing government revenue. Under this it has been decided to reduce imports. Measures are being taken to increase export income, especially since last January, the import income has crossed the threshold of one thousand million dollars.

“It has been decided to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The country has to follow instructions given to strengthen the economy of the country by IMF. Government service recruitment had to be temporarily stopped. Expenses had to be managed.Difficult decisions like increasing the electricity bill had to be made. The rupee is strengthening due to all the activities like the arrival of tourists”, Bandara said.

The Bloomberg Institute has made it very clear that the international community in America has accepted that the Sri Lankan Rupee is currently the fastest growing currency in the world. With all these things, our economy is heading towards a positive direction.

“This is not an individual victory, but a victory for all of us as a country. We haven’t reached the final goal yet,” he further said.

All citizens including politicians, government officials, the private sector have a responsibility to commit to build the country. Some people think that the opposition will not sink, only the government will sink. That is a myth. The Opposition is disrupting the work of the country on various occasions. When a country is economically strong, when it is stable, the Opposition becomes unstable. Some people in the Opposition have felt this fear.

Therefore, at a time when we all need to make a collective effort, we have the opportunity to give the collective commitment and get that respect for the Opposition as well.

There is a debate among the people today that the government is trying to fix the country’s economy and the Opposition is trying to sabotage it, State Minister said. The 225 MPs have made their commitments like the other people of the country in this difficult time.
