Sri Lankans in Israel not affected by missile attacks – Ambassador

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel Nimal Bandara yesterday said that there were no reports of injuries or any harm to Sri Lankan workers in Israel following the Iran missile attack on Israel on Tuesday.

According to Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Additional General Manager G. S. Yapa there are around 12,000 Sri Lankans working in Israel.

Yapa said the SLBFE has not taken any decision to suspend sending workers despite the conflict situation. He said Sri Lanka will continue to send workers to Israel and any future decision regarding workers will be taken in consultation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Bandara said although Iran had launched nearly 200 missiles targeting Israel there were no reports of anyone getting hurt.

Pointing out that Israel’s security system is very strong, he said that Israel had shot down the Iran missiles before they could do any damage on the ground.

Bandara also stated that the embassy is ready to provide assistance to Sri Lankans whenever needed. He said, the country’s main airport, which was closed due to the attack, has also been re-opened for flights.
