St. Benedict’s edge out Ananda 10-3 at Kotahena

St. Benedict’s College edged out Ananda College 10-3 in an exciting Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘B’ Division League Rugby Tournament match played at Kotahena.

The Benedictines scored two unconverted tries to seal the game in their favour while conceding only a solitary penalty to their opponents after a scoreless first half.

Meanwhile, Lumbini MV went through some anxious moments before recording a thrilling 15-14 victory over Maliyadeva College in another ‘B’ Division fixture played at Kurunegala.

The winners collected their points from one goal, one unconverted try and one penalty while the home side responded with two goals. Thurstan College and Sri Sumangala College, Kandy also figured in a thrilling game with the former pulling off a narrow 37-36 victory at the Pallekele Stadium.

The winners collected their points from four goals and three penalties while the home side responded with one goal, four tries, two penalties and one drop goal.

In contrast, Zahira College outplayed St. Aloysius’ College, Galle by a more convincing margin of 29-7 in their encounter played at the same venue. The Zahirians completely dominated the game as they ran down five tries and converted two of them while conceding just a solitary goal to theiropponents.
